How can we be Champions of Peace?

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions on Peace’. Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are Yin yang and the V sign. These symbols represent peace because the white on the yin yang is a colour of peace. With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork.

My Peace Artwork represents peace because it is made out of all the peace symbols such as the yin yang and the v sign with many others.  We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Micheal Jordan I thought this person was a champion of peace because he inspired so many people to play basketball and had We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it encouraged me to be at peace with my classmates and my family.I learnt that peace is the best way to solve war and if we are all at peace we will all live happily with no wars to be worried about in the future. One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by helping my classmates and living at peace with my family.

What is one way you can promote peace in the world?

On Monday the 10th of September Kaupeka year 7’s headed away to camp for two nights and three days. We went to Wainui camp. It took about an hour and a half to get there on the bus.

My activity group was made up of  Ollie, Mac, Johan, Olivia, Sovarn, Hine, Bronte and Kirriana.

our activity leader was  Johan

Our first activity was Coasteering

have created a poster to showcase and reflect on my time at camp.

I created my poster using  google drawings

Have you ever been to Wainui before?

Science

In Science we have been learning about electricity. One of the experiments we did was making a light bulb light up through a circuit. We used the following materials.

Materials needed :

  • Battery.
  • Wires.
  • Tin foil.
  • Light bulb.
  • play dough.

My Hypothesis: Before conducting my experiment I thought that the light bulb would light up because making the circuit looked easy.

What I discovered: After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect because my group and I got so confused and we ended up not making it work. We didn’t make the circuit correctly, we didn’t know the wires needed to be plugged into the battery.

Conclusion:

Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing light because it was exciting not knowing what would happen.

If I was to do this experiment again or something similar I now know that you can use play dough in a circuit and the current can travel through this.

If you did an experiment what one would you do?

James, great poetry

over the past couple weeks we have been doing poetry  i made a limerick poem,  a list poem and a black out poem. here are the poems i made

List: poem

limerick: poem

click on the link to read and if you cant look here for my list poem

Rocks turning green with moss.

Slithering sleek snakes.

Long winding river.

Lush damp dark forest.

Slippery scaled salamanders.

Tall leaning towering trees.

Dark panthers like shadows

vines hanging from towering trees.

Rain falling like snow.

Thundering elephants.

Birds nesting in the lush green trees.

Worms tunneling.

Massive mountain like rocks.

Trees being swayed by the strong winds.

now here is my limerick poem

There once was a cat,

That cat was very fat,

He accidentally overloaded,

And mentally exploded,

And that was the end of that.

PBL

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community? We are using something called The Resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better.

I have learnt that you can show Gratitude by thinking about how much you have and those who don’t have much.  You can show empathy by understanding other peoples feelings, for example, if someone is in a bad mood you can show empathy by putting yourself in their shoes.

You can show mindfulness in lots of ways you could do a peaceful meditation or just listen to your surroundings.

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students’ creations and learn more about The Resilience Project.

Here is a link to my invite to my P.B.L

For the showcase evening I worked with Ollie.M and Vincent.M.

We decided to create a slideshow. Because was a good way to teach people about GEM.

Here is my final creation:

Here is a photo from the Showcase

I now know more aboutwhat G.E.M is and how I can use it in my life to be happier.

Throughout the creating process I feel like I did our work really well. I could have been better at listening to my group.

If I was to do this again, next time I would try and be in a different group without my friends.

Have you learnt more about what GEM is?

THE GOATs

this week in reading we have been learning about the GOATs (the greatest athletes of all time). we made a fake athlete profile i chose Michel Jordan because he is one of the best athletes that ever lived.

we also had to make a quote for our GOAT i did M.J again so here it is.

who is your favorite athlete and Why?

What is a capybara???

Did you know A capybara is the largest rodent in the world. another fact about capybara’s is that they are herbivores meaning they only eat plants, grass, fruit and vegetables.   do you know what a capybara is?  well if you dont they are a browny color sand look like big rats i will put an image of one in at the end. now i bet you didn’t know that Capybaras  are semi-aquatic and are well-adapted for both land and water. and now for the last fact capybara’s  like to behave like other rodents.

Athletics

Hello and welcome back to my blog today I went to athletics it was quite fun. except for the high jump that I’m really bad at and hit my back on the bar and it really hurt my back. The sports were long jump, discus, shot put, sprints, long distance, and high jump. The long jump  was pretty fun I jumped pretty far I didn’t know what place I came because they didn’t tell me but I think I place maybe 4th but I don’t know.  Sprints was hard because I’m not that fast I placed second to last in both the races.  In the second one I thought that I would place last but I just bet the person that was in the lane next to me. Next we did long distance I didn’t get to do that sadly because I really hurt my ankle but I still cheered them on. Next we did shot put I didn’t understand it that much but I think I did pretty well. and last but not least discus. I liked that a bit, I threw it pretty far but George won by far but I was like a metre before George.

And that was athletics for me hope you enjoyed.

Would you like to do athletics?
